The Living Planet Report: Our Dinner Plates Are Destroying Life on Earth

I’m not really a WWF supporter ever since I saw this but nonetheless still vital information others need to know. The twitter page hasn’t been updated in over 2 years so not sure what happened but the content shared doesn’t make me feel too good about WWF.

Now is the time to stop hiding our heads in the sand. Planet Earth is in a mess. And we, the human race, are entirely to blame.

This week the WWF published its Living Planet Report. It makes a chilling read.
“Populations of wild animals have plummeted 58 percent in the past four decades as humans have pushed them into ever-smaller habitats or killed them for food.”
“Global wildlife could plunge 67 per cent in the fifty-year period ending this decade as a result of human activities. The report shows how people are overpowering the planet for the first time in Earth’s history.”
Put it this way: there’s now only one third of the wildlife left that there was when a person now 50 was born.

How has it come to this desperate state of affairs? Sad to say, like this:

  • We have overfished the oceans
  • We have wiped…

The Real Truth in Numbers about the Farming of Animals

Animalista Untamed

“Holocaust: Any mass slaughter or reckless destruction of life.” Dictionary.com

If you’re anything like me you’ll see the latest meme on Facebook telling us how many animals we’ve saved in a year as vegans, or how many gallons of water it takes to produce a kilo of beef, and take it as gospel. Well, if we want the true gospel, it’s to be found here. Faunalytics is the properly researched go-to source for animal data. This is what they have to say about farmed animals, and it doesn’t make for happy reading. People protest in outrage if we talk about a holocaust. But to refer to what is happening as anything less than a holocaust does a great injustice to the animals, because that is exactly what it is.

Remember though, the enormity of the horror spelled out here in facts and figures by Faunalytics is not meant to drag…

Europe’s Dark Secret: Eye Opening Speech

“It’s only like that in America.” When confronted with undercover footage of farm animal abuse, environmental devastation or the monolithic rise of industrial agriculture, the United States consistently plays the role of scapegoat on the international stage. But are European standards for animal treatment and the environmental regulations really any better?

This eye-opening speech delves into the truth about the EU’s agricultural practices, revealing that when it comes to the treatment of animals, and environmental impact, no country remains blameless. Cruelty knows no culture.

This is just one of many great works from Emily of Bite Size Vegan. Check out her website here.

10 Mothers On Why They’re Saying NO To Dairy

Excerpts from the original article:

‘I am brought to tears as I picture these mothers being robbed of the bond that they anticipated for 9 months, and that I have been able to experience for eighteen months of beautiful days. And their helpless infants deprived of the maternal love, connection and nourishment they so desperately need and crave. Where is the compassion for this mother-infant bond?’

‘But because the industry does not need the calves, especially the male calves, they are separated from their mothers and killed immediately, or confined alone for a few more months to be killed for veal. The calf is given formula so that his mother’s milk can be sold in supermarkets.’

‘I’ve seen footage of cows in milking parlours so fresh from birth that afterbirth is dangling down behind them. Their babies are gone, but there’s no time to recover or to mourn, they must be hooked up to machines to have their milk taken for humans. The system is sickening.’

‘Mother cows, like us, produce milk only to nourish their young. That we take and kill those babies, and take their food to make ice creams and lattes from their mothers’ breast milk, is incomprehensible to me. Yet our society not only ignores the inherent cruelty, but celebrates the products made from it. All while denying the mothers of another species what we treasure most. It’s heartbreaking.’
